Rob and his team get their revenge

DIDSBURY Golf Club members were given a ‘new view’ of their course as teams of three enjoyed and endured the Greenkeeper’s Revenge competition which provided great entertainment and many problems.

Didsbury course manager Rob Davies outlined the background to this unique competition: “The inspiration behind it was a long wet winter for the green staff along with lockdown and we just wanted to inject a bit of fun into the course and create some other interesting talking points.

“We cooked up lots of ideas to bring difficulties to the golfers and provide some entertainment to the holes so every brew time the lads and myself came up with new ideas ie a trailer on the first!

“There were also very difficult pin positions on 2/3/11/14 and the Mackenzie pin position on the 11th was the easiest decision ever.

“A tractor was left out on 13, we used a hosepipe on 15th and a crazy selection of old tee markers on 16th 17th

“We used all the old road signs and flood signs we’ve collected over the years and on the18th we used a barrier fence to make life difficult although a very convincing nearest the pin won on it.

“I thought the day was a great success with fantastic weather and also I’d like to thank the committee for allowing us to host the day with great support from lots of members especially our ladies.

“There were great prizes donated from Andrew Murray, Dave McKinnon from Chorlton GC, Peter Barber our old pro, Jamie Curtis and also Chris Cyprus.

“We couldn’t have done it without the help of Caroline in the office.

“The day was won by Craig Estherby’s group of Steve Dunphy and Tom Owen with 52 points after a cpo from Mike Campbell’s team of Roger Arnoll and Pete Brocken and John Kirk our greens chairman used his inside knowledge along with Dave Henshall and Andrew Kelly to come third with 51.”
