Didsbury is a county leader

DIDSBURY Golf club officials can’t wait for golf to resume at their club to enable them to complete two big projects they were involved in before the latest lockdown shut down golf clubs.

Didsbury secretary Margaret Lloyd, who was the Ladies Captain in 2017 explained: “Our Director’s applied to England Golf for a grant through the R&A Covid 19 Support Fund with Nuria Corcoy heading the application.

“We were successful in obtaining a grant which had to be spent to actively support golf during Covid 19.

“We allocated our money in a number of ways, one of which was funding the Ladies Get into Golf scheme which England Golf were backing and results in the Club obtaining the Ladies Get into Golf Charter Award.

“We invested £1500 into funding a free five- week coaching programme for ladies. This was highly successful and over 70 ladies signed up to give golf a try.

“The lockdown of golf courses meant we did not finish the lessons, but as soon as we are open again the lessons will resume. The ladies involved were really enthusiastic.

“There is a plan to run a ladies academy membership as part of the player pathway at the end of the course. We are also planning to investigate if this initiative can be incorporated into future membership strategies.

“The Charter is not just about getting ladies into Golf it also ensures Ladies are fully represented in Club life.

“Nuria and I have also been working on Didsbury becoming a Safe Golf Club. We are just waiting for our PGA professional Kevin Lawrence’s Enhanced DBS which is due any day and we will then be accredited.

“Ben Johnson, Cheshire’s England Golf Support Officer, tells us we are well ahead of other clubs in having the requirements expected in place which is excellent news and we look forward to continuing this fine progress for the club.”.
